Abstract
Recognizing the Stroke as important public health problem in the brazilian and global reality. The present study had an objective to analyze the main claims regarding the family history of care in the family context, after an individual suffered an episode of Cerebral Vascular Accident. The interest about the subject arose from the experience of psychology internship in the Clinical School of Physiotherapy of Faculty Guilherme Guimbala, in contact with patients who suffered stroke and their companions, where the researcher observed changes that occurred in the life of an individual who faced an episode of stroke and that lives together with its sequels. The study developed through an exploratory cross-sectional study, with quantitative-qualitative analysis of the results, based on the triangulation of methods. The information was obtained through the clinical records of the participants, the application of semidirectional interviews to the individuals who had a stroke episode and recovered from their sequels, as well as interviews applied to the relatives who followed the rehabilitation process of these patients. The data analysis allowed the identification of the main care needs of the individuals affected by the health problem, as well as the conditions of reorganization in the family context intrinsic to the new reality. The negative charge that the disease brings with it was perceptible, but it was also possible to observe that in moments of crisis the family relationships are put to the test and, in the cases analyzed, the bonds have been strengthened.
