Abstract
Considering that human relations are fundamental for the growth and expansion of the human species; social medias have brought strong influences on relationships, occupations and well-being. The academic builds knowledge through the most diverse resources and social networks are present, however, it’s necessary to understand the impacts for this occupation. The general objective is to verify whether academic performance is influenced, as well and specifically to explore the needs for use and time available for such occupation and how occupational therapy can contribute. For this purpose, we proceed with hypothetical deductive research, of the quali quanti type, with theoretical and field research, through an electronic survey made available to academics from Guilherme Guimbala Faculty. Thus, it’s observed that the results prove the theoretical data, which shows that young people are the largest users of medias, spend two to five hours daily, perceive effects on routine, academic activity, rest and sleep, health and very well, seek networks for communication, leisure, social interaction and learning, conclude that they feel the need to be connected while exercising the role of student, where they perceive the influence on academic performance regarding concentration, attention threshold, focus and list the ease of information as something positive for performance. So, the relevance of this research for Occupational Therapy is perceived, since there is a scarcity of studies in this area and the use of virtual resources is increasingly present in people's daily lives.
