Abstract
Brazilian education underwent major transformations during the Covid-19 pandemic. Activities that were traditionally carried out face-to-face were replaced by online studies. Given this context, we investigated the roles of Sociology in basic education and how remote teaching contributed to bringing this purpose closer or further away. The methodological resources used were the bibliographic review and documental research. Through a case study, the consequences of remote teaching on the teaching of Sociology in the state schools of Goiás were observed. The results pointed to a deficit in the occupation of the teaching function by properly trained teachers who teach the subject in high school; lack of access to technological equipment and adequate study environment by part of the students; and, lack of adaptation of methodological practices to the online model. We conclude that the challenges for the full realization of teaching that already existed even before the pandemic were aggravated during remote teaching, undermining the teaching-learning process of Sociology.
